An article in today’s Guardian points to how Hollywood producers are painting the stereotypical Silicon Valley ‘Nerd’ or ‘Tech Bro’ and in particular their CEO’s as the modern day Supervillains. Here’s our Graduate Account Manager, Emily Stoker on how girls are actually leading the way in technological advancements….

Statistics reported by IBM state that women account for less than 20% of technology positions worldwide and I can recall from both my school and university years that great pains were taken to promote careers in STEM Technologies to women. Whilst the work to change women’s perceptions about opportunities within this sector must continue, it doesn’t take an expert to realise that innovators can be any gender but it is the introduction of a disruptive solution to the market-place that will determine whether or not it will gain a foot-hold and win over the customer majority and this is where the sales experts come in.
My company, Celsius Graduate Recruitment have been recruiting and placing graduates of all disciplines into technology sales positions for over 14 years now and females account for over 40% of our placements. Being a successful sales consultant requires a high degree of emotional intelligence for building trust and relationships along with the ability to positively challenge ingrained beliefs and educate customers about new ways of doing things…This is why the unfeeling ‘tech bro’ image will do very little to boost any businesses’ reputation and capital and is also why sales consultants achieve some of the highest earnings within their companies.
